If you want to convert your Mercedes W460 to a 5-speed gearbox, you are faced with a limited choice of gearboxes that have the required durability and can also be installed “period correct”. The originally installed 711.117 gearboxes (e.g. Wolf) are now being traded at horrendous prices. An alternative is the installation of the 5-speed gearbox 711.113 from the Mercedes T1 Bremer. This has the same transmission ratio as the 711.117 gearbox, but is significantly cheaper.
To realise the installation, the connection of the speedometer cable must be removed. We have had a suitable plug made from aluminium for this purpose. This is supplied with a sealing ring and retaining plate. It can be used to securely seal the hole for the speedometer cable.
